New Mexico State University guard Ian Baker hopes a career in the NBA is in his future.
The junior declared for the NBA Draft Monday, April 18.
But the 6-0 player from Washington D.C. said he has not hired an agent. That means Baker can retain his amateur status and return to school if he withdraws his name before the draft.
“I discussed it with my coaches and family and we felt it was best that I evaluate and put my name out there,” he said.
Though he has decided not to hire an agent, he will not hold back when it comes to seeking the help and guidance it takes to make it to the next level.
Baker said he will be actively searching for options that will give him more guidance as a player and a person.
“As a competitor you want to play at the highest level,” he said. “So I feel it’s best for me to find out some things I need to work on so I will be ready for that level. Whether that’s right now or later on.”
