Former New Mexico State University center Valerian Ume-Ezeoke did not hear his name called during the three days of the NFL draft, but he knew that the phone could still ring with an opportunity. The Atlanta Falcons reached out to Ume-Ezeoke and signed him to a freeagent contract. “God never makes mistakes. Glad to be an Atlanta Falcon,” Ume-Ezeoke posted on his Twitter account Saturday, May 2. The 6-3, 295-pound lineman was a four-year starter at center for the Aggies and served as a team captain during his senior season in 2014. He was a first team All-Sun Belt selection last season. A native of Garland, Texas, he attended Garland Lakeview Centennial High School. Ume-Ezeoke will get his first taste of life in the NFL when the Falcons hold a three-day rookie minicamp Friday to Sunday, May 8-10. The Falcons have not yet released a start date for training camp but practices usually being in late July and rookies can report ahead of veterans.
