Bulletin report

The 21st Las Cruces Tour of Gardens will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 7 in the Las Alturas area.

This year’s gardens range from vegetable garden landscapes to native gardens. From bees and chickens to a vignette of mining tools, the gardens offer inspiration for local gardeners.

Visitors may begin the tour in any garden and proceed in any order. Signs in front of the homes help identify the particpants, which are shown on a map provided on the ticket. Children should be supervised, as many plants are fragile and some may be poisonous. Refreshments will be available in one of the gardens. There will be drawings for gate prizes. Doña Ana County Extension Service Master Gardeners will be available in each location to answer questions.

The tour is presented annually by three Las Cruces garden clubs: Mesilla Valley Garden Club, Desert Daubers Garden Club and Hi Hopes Garden Club. The proceeds of the tour are donated to gardening-related beautification and educational projects in the community.

Tickets can be purchased at the following locations: Ashley Furniture Home Store, 3299 Del Rey Boulevard; The Emerald Isle, 1701 Calle de Mercado; Glen Cutter Gallery, 2640 El Paseo Rd.; Guzman’s Garden Center Color Your World, 540 Telshor Blvd. and 270 Avenida de Mesilla. Tickets also will be available on the day of the tour at all of the gardens.

Sponsors of this year’s tour include: Las Cruces Bulletin; Color Your World; Robledo Vista Nursery; Sierra Vista Nursery; Malooly’s Flooring Company; NMSU President Garrey Carruthers; Jose and Olivina Sanchez; Wanda Bowman of Ashley’s Furniture; Toby Rue of Morgan Stanley; Renee Frank of Steinborn Associates; Wild Birds Unlimited; Barb’s Flowerland; Frame and Art Center; Cutie-cles Nail and Hair Salon; John Lacy of Merrill-Lynch; and Steve Lacy.
