Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 33-year-old Las Cruces man suspected of brandishing a knife and threatienng to kill his estranged wife late Sunday evening.
Arthur M. Orozco, 33, of the 900 block of east Madrid Avenue, is charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A warrant has been issued for Orozco’s arrest.
Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps lead to Orozco’s arrest. Anyone suspected of harboring a wanted person could be charged with a crime.
Shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday, March 20, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the report of a domestic disturbance at his estranged wife’s home on the 1900 block of north Solano Drive. Officers learned that Orozco had gone to the woman’s home, uninvited, and the two got into an argument.
Orozco allegedly armed himself with a small knife when the woman went upstairs to check on her two children. He then threatened to kill the woman and her children.
Detectives learned the woman was able to escape the home and call 911 while being chased by Orozco. Police located the woman at another site but Orozco fled the area and was nowhere to be found. Orozco is also suspected of slashing the tires to the woman’s vehicle that evening.
Orozco is Hispanic, 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He has hazel eyes and is bald.
