Dissatisfied with U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce’s (R-NM) perceived lack of accessibility and face-to-face communication, a group of Las Cruces and Truth or Consequences citizens will stage a fake town hall meeting.
The event, complete with a stand-in wearing a Pearce face mask, will take place outside Pearce’s Telshor Boulevard offices at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in Las Cruces. The meeting will come after a rally starting at noon.
The organizing group is called Indivisible and has a total of 14 chapters in Las Cruces, Truth or Consequences and throughout the rest of District 2–Pearce’s congressional district.
Indivisible members will question “Pearce” about his stands on issues ranging from immigrant deportations to women’s rights to the sale of public lands.
Indivisible started as a result of the November 2016 elections. Each chapter is aimed at holding Rep. Pearce and other lawmakers accountable to their constituents for their policies, votes and actions.
A national grassroots movement, Indivisible chapters now number more than 7,000 nationwide.
