LAS CRUCES COMMUNITY THEATRE

An American classic returns: ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ at LCCT

Posted

Las Cruces Community Theatre (LCCT) is bringing back a classic of the American theatre with its production of “Arsenic and Old Lace,” which opens Friday, Jan. 31, for a three-weekend run at LCCT, 313 N. Main St. downtown.

The play was written by Joseph Kesselring (1902-67) in 1939 and premiered on Broadway in 1941, running for nearly 1,500 performances. A film adaptation starring Cary Grant was made in 1944.

The dark comedy is based on Kesselring’s experiences living in a boarding house in North Newton, Kansas, when he taught at Bethel College. It tells the story of the eccentric and homicidal Brewster family in Brooklyn.

The cast of the Las Cruces production includes Dawn Duncan, Virginia Ostendorf, Luz Francisco Resendez, James Boberg, Nathan Harper, Veronica Bissell, Stephanie Beauregard, Victor Roberts, Doug Abbott, Mike Cruz, Sage Drake and Mario Nuñez.

The play is directed by veteran LCCT actor/director Darin Robert Cabot, who teaches theater at Centennial High School and is the co-founder of Doña Ana Repertory Theatre in Las Cruces.

Roxi Garcia is the stage manager; Mayfield High School theater teacher Melissa Muñoz is the scenic and costume designer; Jessie Montoya Ortega is the lighting designer; and Zane Chaffee is the sound designer.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Jan. 31-Feb. 1 and Feb. 7-8 and 14-15; and 2 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 2, 9 and 16.

Ticket are $17 for adults, $14 for seniors, students and military, $10 for groups of 10 or more and for children under age 12. Tickets are available at lcctnm.org, by clicking on the show poster image.
