BeWellNM challenges businesses in ‘I Feel Good’ contest

Posted

NEW MEXICO - BeWellnm, the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange, has launched a contest challenging New Mexico businesses to submit videos of their staff lip-syncing to James Brown’s “I Feel Good.”

The “I Feel Good” Challenge, which runs through Monday, Oct. 21, is the first-ever statewide, social media-based contest to raise awareness about the importance of health insurance in the workplace.

“[When businesses offer and/or promote health and wellness in the workplace] it creates peace of mind for their employees,” said Katrina Smith, broker relations liaison with the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange. “Sometimes when you show that you care by providing health benefits, employees tend to stay with that job longer and there is usually less turnover.”

Smith said so far, the videos submitted have been creative and fun, and that businesses don’t need to have professional video making skills to enter the contest.

“It’s just a fun way for [businesses] to get involved and get them moving, and maybe it will be something to get them motivated to go out and maybe even just take a walk with each other during their break,” Smith said.

Businesses can submit their 30-second video to bewellnmifeelgood@gmail.com to be entered in the challenge. Each week, beWellnm will post its favorite videos on its Facebook page (facebook.com/beWellnm) before announcing the top five contenders for the three grand prizes on Thursday, Oct. 24.

The top five videos will be available on the beWellnm Facebook page. Videos with the highest social media engagement will be named the winners on Friday, Nov. 1, according to a news release.

The business that wins first place will be rewarded with a health-and-wellness day at the office with a one-hour group yoga session provided by a professional yoga instructor, a healthy catered lunch and a health-themed gift basket for staff members.

Second and third place will receive health-themed gift baskets.

BeWellnm will provide participating businesses with a link to their video so they can post and share it on their own Facebook pages.

While the challenge is open to all New Mexico businesses who wish to participate, Smith said beWellNM’s focus is on helping individuals and small businesses get access to affordable health insurance plans.

Through beWellnm for Small Business, small businesses can purchase competitively priced health insurance plans and offer their employees the ability to choose from an array of plans. Enrollment counselors and insurance agents are available to help with the process, according to the release.
