LAS CRUCES PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Ewing out at LCPS

Posted

Las Cruces Public Schools Superintendent Gregory Ewing will no longer lead the district.

In a special meeting Aug. 13, the LCPS Board of Education voted unanimously to accept Ewing’s resignation. No reason was given for the resignation.

His resignation is effective as of Sept. 9, but he will be on administrative leave until then.

The board also voted unanimously to name Steven Sanchez as interim superintendent until a replacement for Ewing is hired.

This will be the second time Sanchez has led the district on an interim basis. In 2015, Sanchez retired after serving eight years as LCPS deputy superintendent. After longtime superintendent Stan Rounds’ departure in June 2016, Sanchez was called out of retirement to run the district until Ewing arrived in December 2016.
