The Doña Ana County Historical Society (DACHS) will host a presentation by local historian Christopher Schurtz beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the auditorium at Good Samaritan Village, 3011 Buena Vida Circle.

Schurtz will discuss what is believed to be the first aerial photo of Las Cruces, DACHS member Jim Eckles said. The photo was taken from a kite in 1917 by S. Parks. Schurtz also will address the very short-lived Las Cruces Railway connecting the college and the town.

The presentation will also be available via Zoom. Request the Zoom invitation by email at 19dachs63@gmail.com.

The photo is “easy to date because the building under construction is the old U.S. courthouse and post office which was done in 1917,” Eckles said.
