The City of Las Cruces and New Mexico State University are teaming up to host the city’s annual Fourth of July celebration concert and fireworks display at Pat and Lou Sisbarro Community Park, 3205 Arrowhead Drive on the NMSU campus.

The concert will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, followed by the city’s annual fireworks display celebrating the 247th anniversary of the day the Declaration of Independence was ratified by the Second Continental Congress in 1776.

Platinum-selling country artist Randy Houser will headline this year’s free concert, the city said in a news release. Opening acts will be Las Cruces country singers Chris Baker and Dzaki Sukarno.

Houser’s 2013 Stoney Creek Records album “How Country Feels” produced three consecutive No. 1 hits and has sold more than four million singles to date, the city said. The album’s title track, plus “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” and “Goodnight Kiss” all topped the charts, while “Like A Cowboy” was nominated for the Country Music Association song of the year. Houser added another No. 1 hit to his catalogue with “We Went,” from his 2016 album, “Fired Up.”

The Mississippi native’s sixth studio album, “Note To Self,” features 10 tracks all co-written by Houser, and is now available. Lead single and title track “Note To Self” has made its way up the country music charts. Houser’s return to the music scene has been hailed by MusicRow, who described him as “one of country music’s very finest vocalists.”

Houser’s talents have also been recognized beyond music, as he landed onscreen roles in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and “The Hill.”

The Fourth of July celebration follows the city’s July 3 Electric Light Parade.
