“Our Border Economic Development Day in Santa Fe went really well,” Border Industrial Association (BIA) President Jerry Pacheco of Santa Teresa told the Bulletin.
Pacheco, Doña Ana County Manager Fernando Macias, Luna County Manager Chris Brice and others met with Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham Jan. 20 at the governor’s office in Santa Fe.
“Our legislative reception on Thursday night (Jan. 19) was well attended by legislators from both sides of the aisle,” Pacheco said. This event gives us face-to-face time with these policymakers to let them know what is going on at the border.
“On Friday (Jan. 20), we went to the capitol to meet with the governor,” he said. “We talked to her about our developments and stressed the need for ongoing infrastructure funds in order to keep the momentum going. She expressed her continued support for what we are doing.
“Also on Friday, we had a luncheon with the State Land Commissioner (Stephanie Garcia Richard) as our featured speaker. The Land Office owns land in Santa Teresa, particularly the land on with the Santa Teresa Jetport’s cross-runway will be built,” Pacheco said.
“We had about 60 BIA members accompany us to Santa Fe,” he said. “It was a successful event for the border.”
BIA is “a nonprofit industrial advocacy group was comprised of 125 industrial members that account for 6,000 employees and billions of value-added production (and six million square feet of industrial space) and more than $1 billion in investment in the Santa Teresa-Las Cruces Corridor,” Pacheco said.
