Shirley Alford, 72

Shirley Alford  passed away unexpectedly on December 18, 2023 at the age of 72.  Shirley was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend. She graduated from NMSU with a BA in Journalism and while there, enjoyed working on the university's newspaper and TV station (KRWG).  She worked briefly as a newspaper journalist in Espanola before returning to work for the university.  She was the Department Secretary for Black Programs for 8 years and loved her job there.  Shirley was a voracious reader and consumed all types of media on diverse subjects.  She found a community of friends through her interests in books, love of fountain pens, and her jewish faith.  Family and friends will miss her caring and compassionate nature, love of learning, feistiness, and quirky sense of humor.  Her parents, Hoy and Sue Alford preceded her in death. She is survived by her younger sister Carla Alford.
