Posted

Doña Ana Repertory Theatre (DART) will hold auditions for its upcoming production of “Tartuffe” 6-8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 18-19, at Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St. Special auditions are also available.

DART will cast 10 roles in the production, ages 18-80.

Actors are encouraged to prepare short monologues for the audition, which will also include cold readings from the script.

Rehearsals begin in late December and the play opens in February 2020.

“Tartuffe” was written by Molière (1622-73) and first performed in Paris in 1664. It opened on Broadway in 1965 and was made into films in 1926 and 1984. It was the subject of a 1980 opera and has multiple television productions.

The play was written using nearly 2,000 12-syllable lines (alexandrines) of rhyming couplets.

DART has previously produced “Bullshot Drummond,” “The Game’s Afoot,” “(Root)Beers with the Bard,” “Symposium or the Drinking Party,” “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot” and “The Merchant of Venice.”
