Of the seven Las Cruces High School teams who made the state basketball tournament, three are still alive after weekend play.

In the 5A girls division, Centennial High School and Las Cruces High School advanced to the next round in Albuquerque.

Centennial, the # 6 seed, defeated Organ Mountain High School 40-39 March 3 at the CHS gym in Las Cruces. The Hawks were scheduled to play #3 seed Volcano Vista at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at the Pit in Albuquerque.

Also on March 3 in Las Cruces, #7 seed LCHS beat Clovis 51-33. The Bulldawgs play #2 seed Farmington at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at the Pit.

Should both Centennial and LCHS win Tuesday, they’ll face each other at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in the third round, also at the Pit.

The #13 seed in the girls division, Mayfield High School, lost to La Cueva 49-29 in Albuquerque March 3.

In the Class A boys state tournament, Mesilla Valley Christian lost on the road to Melrose 69-48.

In the Class 5A boys state tournament, #14 seed Las Cruces High School nearly pulled the upset on #3 seed Los Lunas, narrowly losing to the Tigers 45-43.

Organ Mountain is the only Las Cruces boys team remaining after defeating Hobbs 70-56 March 4 at home. The Knights, seeded #5, are scheduled to play #4 seed West Mesa at the Pit in Albuquerque 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 8. If they beat West Mesa, they would play the winner of the #1 seed Volcano Vista and #9 seed Atrisco Heritage at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, March 9.
