TruArt of the Earth: Connecting, aligning and balancing with crystals, minerals, stones

Posted

About 15 years ago, a friend gave Jose Martinez a quartz crystal from Brazil. That “planted the seed” that grew into a trade-show booth and is now TruArt of the Earth shop, which opened last summer and features “exquisite crystals, minerals and gifts” at 2411 Calle de San Albino, just east of La Posta restaurant in Mesilla.

“Our crystals are hand-picked with love, [then] cleansed and activated with high-vibrational sound frequencies using crystal bowls,” Martinez said on the TruArt of the Earth Facebook page. “We admire the art Mother Earth provides.”

Martinez grew up in Las Cruces and graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1995. He moved to Albuquerque that year and began providing IT support to attorneys.

After receiving the Brazilian quartz from his friend in 2004 or 2005, Martinez started collecting crystals, found a wholesale distributor and began traveling to trade shows in New Mexico, southern Colorado and west Texas.

“Once I did the first show,” Martinez said, “I thought, ‘Whoa, I like this!’”

While visiting his mother last year, Martinez noticed the retail space he now occupies was for rent and decided to return home. He and his wife, Shauna, opened TruArt of the Earth during the 2019 July 4 weekend.

Many customers are first-time shoppers in a store like TruArt, Martinez said, adding that they’re looking for alternative means of dealing with stress and other issues.

Many people are “aware of the subtle energies” of crystals and minerals, he said, and they may need some guidance on what might help with grounding, balancing and aligning personal energies and emotions. Finding the right crystal or stone has helped many people, Martinez said, because “it’s a connection to the earth.”

Martinez enjoys discovering, learning and growing with his customers, from the very young to the very old. He remembers a boy, 9 or 10 years old, who was visiting TruArt of the Earth with his mother and began telling Martinez the ages of many of his crystals. “

Children are very open, so intuitive,” he said. “We are all teachers and students of the universe.”

Fluorite is probably the youngest stone in the shop, Martinez said. Other rocks and crystals he has for sale are hundreds of thousands -- even millions -- of years old and come from all over the world. You’ll find a wide range of stones with many different healing properties in every color of the rainbow. In addition to loose stones and clusters from very small to very large, you’ll also find bracelets and pendants.

Martinez can tell you about every rock in his shop, and very often helps direct you to the very one that may help you the most. He may tell a customer, for example, that a particular crystal or stone “is really talking to you. Sometimes it’s just very strong,” he said about the vibration he feels connecting a person and a stone. “I feel like I connect to source energy,” he said.

Often, customers feel the connection for themselves, he said. “A lot of people are open and waking up.”

Martinez himself wears a small, clear quartz crystal that he said is cut to the angle of the pyramids. Quartz, he said, is an amplifier and receiver of energy – old computer hard drives contained layers of silica, which is a form of quartz, Martinez said. Quartz is also quite beautiful, coming in many sizes, shapes and colors.

Martinez also works a lot with sound vibrations, using crystal bowls of different sizes and other tools. And he regularly hosts workshops at TruArt focused on the chakras, crystals and expanding intuition, and he welcomes guest speakers and other energy practitioners “to share their gifts and knowledge.”
