Las Cruces theaters had an outstanding 2019, and just wait until you see what’s coming in 2020! We welcomed two new theater companies to Las Cruces in the last year with the founding of Junk Drawer Productions, whose principle, Diane Thomas, is a longtime musical theater genius; and The Blank Conversations Theatre Company (BCTC), whose founder, Gus Sanchez, is a freshman theater major at New Mexico State University already making a name for himself as a talented actor and director. BCTC’s production of the musical “The Last Five Years” will run from Feb. 7-16 (including a Valentine’s Day performance) at Mayfield High School. Find BCTC on Facebook. more
Las Crucen Clayton Flowers was feted Dec. 17 at a reception hosted by the NAACP Doña Ana County Branch. Flowers, a former Tuskegee Airman, turned 104 on Christmas Day. more
Make Music came to the United States in 2007 with more than 500 performances in New York and has grown to include thousands of bands and millions of attendees across the United States. Led by the Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) and local music groups and arts organizations, Las Cruces-Mesilla is likely to join about 100 cities nationwide participating in Make Music Day on June 21, 2020. At the invitation of U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-New Mexico, National Make Music Alliance President Aaron Friedman was at the DAAC Arts and Cultural Center Thursday, Dec. 12, to address groups and individuals about organizing a local event. more
