If artists were to sign up for the master workshop the Do؜ña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) is offering Feb. 1-13, it could cost $500 or more. But in Las Cruces, the cost is only $250 (DAAC members receive a 20 percent discount), as local artist Nancy Begin and her sister, Florida artist Susan Hansen, are teaching “The Art of Simplification: Eliminating the Unnecessary to Let the Necessary Speak” for intermediate- and advanced-level artists. Make Music came to the United States in 2007 with more than 500 performances in New York and has grown to include thousands of bands and millions of attendees across the United States. Led by the Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) and local music groups and arts organizations, Las Cruces-Mesilla is likely to join about 100 cities nationwide participating in Make Music Day on June 21, 2020. At the invitation of U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-New Mexico, National Make Music Alliance President Aaron Friedman was at the DAAC Arts and Cultural Center Thursday, Dec. 12, to address groups and individuals about organizing a local event. more
Esteemed Las Cruces artist Frank Peacock will have a new show at Doña Ana Arts Council Arts and Cultural Center, 1740 Calle de Mercado in the Bulletin Plaza, during the month of August. “Orchards of Doña Ana County” will open Monday, Aug. 5, and continue through Friday, Aug. 30. Viewing hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. more
