The Organ Mountain High School cross country program continued its strong start to the season, sweeping both the team and individual competitions at the Centennial Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 28 in Las Cruces. The Knights had a similar result during the Silver City Invitational on Aug. 21. In boys varsity, Brett Bybee was the top individual finisher, running the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes, 53.11 seconds. Teammates Jeron Wisner (18:12.39) and Andrew Parks (18:13.40) finished second and third, respectively. The Las Cruces Lacrosse program is seeking players age 8 to 14 for its fall season. Practice began on Sept. 9 and will be held on Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Frenger Park. Lacrosse is traditionally a spring sport, but a fall season is designed to get players familiar with the sport and excited about the spring season, head coach and club co-founder Janae Kraus said. The cost to sign up for the fall season is $20, but you need to be a member of USA Lacrosse to participate. A youth USA Lacrosse membership includes insurance, lasts a year and is $30, Kraus said. more
The Santa Teresa Charitable Foundation (STCF) will host the 21st annual Santa Teresa Charitable Golf Tournament, which will be held Friday, Oct. 1 at Butterfield Trail Golf Course in El Paso. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the tournament will start at 11. The tournament is sponsored by more than 80 companies and organizations, said STCF President Jerry Pacheco in a news release. Major sponsors include El Paso Electric, Ironhorse Resources, VEMAC, Union Pacific, MCS, CN Wire, Global Perspectives Integrated and Pepsi. more
For nearly three quarters, the New Mexico State University football team played like it wanted to shock the world. The Aggies led heavily favored San Diego State 10-0 at halftime and 10-7 late in the third quarter before falling 28-10 on Sept. 4 in Carson, Calif. The host Aztecs were 31-point favorites coming into the game. NMSU is now a somewhat disappointing 0-2 after the high hopes of summer workouts and fall camp. But the season can quickly turn around this weekend. more
