Posted

Doña Ana Community College’s second annual 10 X 25 Conference will be held 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Rio Grande Theatre, 313 N. Main St. downtown. An afterparty, 7-8:30 p.m., is also at the theatre.

There is no charge to attend the conference, which is open to the public.

The conference is a “celebration of creativity and innovation as drivers of economic and social growth in the arts, education, health and entertainment industries,” said DACC film and digital media professor Lamaia Vaughn. “Inspiring presenters share their adventures in entrepreneurship, education, film, music, and dance.”

“It’s going to be a really great event,” said DACC Arts Department Chair Matt Byrnes. “People will be able to make a lot of really great connections. Attendees will be surprised at the amount of the talent we have in our area. Our presenters are people who embody the entrepreneurial spirit.”

10 x 25 is also “a regional networking opportunity geared to innovators, creators, educators and entrepreneurs; designed for those who want to learn how to thrive in their respective, creative fields,” Vaughn said.

Las Cruces native, filmmaker, performer and educator Julian Alexander, a New Mexico State University graduate and instructor, returns as conference master of ceremonies. Other participants will include Parisa Rad, who will discuss entrepreneurship in the cannabis industry; Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Debbi Moore, giving an overview of the role of entrepreneurship in the local economy; local musician A. Billi Free will discuss how she has supported young musicians in Poland; and Josh Peugh will tell the story of bringing dance to the community. Local filmmakers from 828 Studios, Film Las Cruces, NMSU’s Creative Media Institute and DACC will share inside information about their current projects.
