Academy for Learning in Retirement unveils the universe in February

The Academy for Learning in Retirement’s (ALR) February 2023 Zoom series will discuss the great observatories that have enabled a better understanding of the solar system, galaxy and universe, ALR said in a news release.

Rene Walterbos, Chris Churchill, Joe Burchett and Nancy Chanover, all Ph.D.’s in New Mexico State University’s Department of Astronomy, will present Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 6, 8, 13 and 15.

All programs begin at 10:30 a.m. Log in begins at 10 a.m. 

The presentations are

  • Monday, Feb. 6: Rene Walterbos, Why We Need Great Observatories;
  • Wednesday, Feb. 8: Chris Churchill, Quasars: Unveiling the History of the Universe;
  • Monday, Feb. 13: Joe Burchett: The Highly Energetic X-Ray Universe;
  • Wednesday, Feb. 15: Nancy Chanover: Getting to Know the Neighbors.

Those who register for full-semester tuition ($60) for spring 2023, can view all ALR programs February-May and will receive January’s recorded broadcasts. Enrolling for individual months is $20.

ALR will e-mail a Zoom link to registrants the evening before each presentation.
