ACTion Programs for Animals has offering free adoptions in July

Posted

ACTion Program for Animals (APA) of Las Cruces is holding its much-anticipated, once-a-year, free July adoption special, APA said in a news release.

When you adopt from APA in July and take advantage of fee-waived adoptions, you help the nonprofit animal rescue free up much-needed space for animals waiting to come into APA’s care.

“This time of year is the most challenging for the municipal shelter and local rescues," said APA Executive Director Michel Meunier. “With so many puppies and kittens born in the summer months, we are all inundated. And APA can only help rescue more shelter and community animals if we adopt out animals from our adoption center at a regular pace."

Meunier also said that “free” does not mean “easy,” or without a process.

“Anyone interested in adopting must go to APA's adoption center to go through our adoption counseling process, and they must be approved to adopt.”

The July adoption special does not include small dogs.

APA is open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, or by appointment. The adoption center line is 575-571-4654.

The APA adoption center is located at 537 N. Solano Drive, at the corner of Solano and east Court Street.

Since May 2012, APA has rescued more than 5,500 animals. The majority of these have been dogs and cats/kittens pulled from the municipal shelter. APA is able to do this through volunteer work of rescue/foster coordinators, foster families, and donations.
