ARTIST PAUL MAXWELL

Agave Gallery featuring work of artist Paul Maxwell this month

Posted

Agave Artists’ Gallery, 2250 Calle de San Albino in Mesilla, is featuring the work of artist Paul Maxwell throughout the month of September.

Maxwell will host a watercolor landscape paint-along in Agave Gallery’s courtyard, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. Register in advance by calling 575-339-9870.

While Maxwell has been painting most of his life, he became a full-time artist in 2012, the gallery said in a news release. Maxwell traveled extensively in Europe and parts of Asia, studying for several months at the Academe de Arte in Florence, Italy. In the United States, he attended workshops and seminars in watercolor, acrylic and oils.

Maxwell draws inspiration from the world around him, including landscapes, mountains and the desert Southwest, the gallery said.

Agave Artists co-op welcomes new artist

Agave Artists has a new member in Jean Wilkey.

Wilkey has a master’s degree in painting and has taught at New Mexico State University and the University of Texas at El Paso. She is currently an adjunct professor at Doña Ana Community College and teaches oil painting classes privately at her studio.

“The worlds she paints blurs the line between still life and landscape,” Agave Artists said in describing her work.

The Agave Artists’ Gallery, 2250 Calle de San Albino in Mesilla, is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It is accessible through Josefina's patio.

The four-room gallery opened in August 2019 and features the work of a variety of local and regional artists in a range of media.
