LAS CRUCES, N.M. –  For the first time this season, the NM State baseball fell on Sunday afternoon. Despite a dazzling six innings from Ian Mejia, the Aggies fell by a final score of 10-3. Dropping their third straight contest, the Aggies fell below .500 for the first time since Opening Day.

Mejia continued to dominate on Sundays as he has all season. The first seven outs that Mejia recorded on Sunday all came via the strikeout. With one out in the third, Mejia had already reached his second-highest strikeout total in his career.

The Lancers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a two-run home run in the first inning. NM State got a pair of runs in the third inning to tie the game. After Nolan Funke singled to start the inning, Tommy Tabak laced a double into the right field corner to put a pair in scoring position. Cal Kilgore and Brandon Dieter both plated runs with RBI groundouts to tie the game.

Mejia tossed four consecutive scoreless innings before the Lancers added two runs on a pair of RBI singles in the sixth inning, taking a 4-2 lead.

In the top of the seventh, California Baptist pushed a run across with a squeeze bunt with one out. The Aggies turned a double play to end the inning. The eighth inning saw three more Lancer runs come across to push their lead to 8-2.

Brandon Dieter drove in his second run of the afternoon when he lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Tommy Tabak from third.

California Baptist pushed across another pair of runs in the ninth inning to reach double-digits on the scoreboard and push their lead to seven. In their final chances, the Aggies went down in order, falling by a score of 10-3 on Sunday afternoon.
