AGGIE POWER

Aggie Power ribbon-cutting ceremony set for Sept. 23

Posted

New Mexico State University and El Paso Electric invite students, staff, faculty and community members to join a ribbon-cutting ceremony and distinguished lecture Thursday, Sept. 23, in celebration of Aggie Power.

Aggie Power, a collaboration between NMSU and EPE, is a three-megawatt solar photovoltaic facility with approximately 10,000 panels, coupled with a one-megawatt four-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system, that sits on a 29-acre land parcel on NMSU’s Arrowhead Park.

Once complete, Aggie Power, which is now in its final stages of construction, will generate enough solar electricity to power about half of NMSU’s 900-acre Las Cruces campus.

NMSU Chancellor Dan Arvizu and EPE President and CEO Kelly Tomblin will kick off Thursday's festivities with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Aggie Power site on Cholla Road between Interstate 10 and Interstate 25.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Arvizu and Tomblin will conduct a distinguished lecture – “Transforming a New Energy” – at the Aggie Power site. They will discuss the opportunities and challenges ahead as New Mexico begins to diversify its energy sector. The talk is open to the public and will be live-streamed on Zoom. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.

Email chancellor.arvizu@nmsu.edu for more information about the lecture.
