Based on the City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department phase I re-opening plan that was approved by the city council in alignment state public health orders and safety guidelines, all city parks will be closed Memorial Day weekend except for a few specialty areas and trails. Beginning Friday, May 22, specialty areas and trails will have modified schedules. Signage with reminders stressing the importance of social distancing, proper hygiene, trash pick-up, etc. will be posted. Restrooms and water fountains will not be available. Limited used facilities will include pickleball courts at Apodaca Park, tennis courts at Lions Park, two remote-control tracks and Butterfield Shooting Range. Parks and Rec will move into phase II of its re-opening strategy with a target date of mid-to-late June.
Other than those listed above, specialty areas, parks and facilities remain closed until further notice. That includes all city parks including Skate Park, BMX track, Dog Park, athletic ballfields, East Mesa Recreation Center, Frank O’Brien Papen Center, Meerscheidt Recreation Center, Regional Aquatic Center and Frenger Pool. Operational closures until further notice include sports practice, league play and tournaments on all city facilities (athletic fields); all youth and adult programming; all fitness classes; Juvenile Citation Program and Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Program activities; and administration offices.
