Arrest made in Sunday night homicide

            At 10:55 p.m. Sunday night Las Cruces police officers responded to the report of a body in the roadway on Madrid Avenue on the north side of Apodaca Park. On arriving officers located a deceased male subsequently identified as 51-year-old James Garcia. Mr. Garcia sustained multiple sharp force injuries.

            The suspect Joel Arciniega-Saenz was detained in Apodaca Park after officers observed that he had significant blood stains on his person as well as what appeared to be a bloody knife stuck in the ground near where he was seated. Arciniega-Saenz surrendered to officers without incident. Information developed during investigation led to Arciniega-Saenz being charged with First Degree Murder (Willful and Deliberate).
