DOÑA ANA ARTS COUNCIL

Arts Council features Maria Dolores paintings in September

Posted

The Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) will exhibit work by local artist Maria Dolores in DACC’s Staszewski Gallery during September, DAAC said in a news release.

Originally from New York City, Dolores has been a resident of Las Cruces for 37 years. She has been a part of the local art community since 1995, exploring watercolor, acrylic and oil, the release said.

Dolores “is truly a lifelong learner of the arts attending classes in high school and studying with some of the best art teachers in the Mesilla Valley, including Sally Quillin, Fred Chilton, Joe Ireland and Jan Archey,” DAAC Executive Director Greg Smith said.

"My passion lies in the continuous pursuit of subjects that excite my inner creativity," Dolores said. "To create is to give of oneself completely."

Dolores’ work has been exhibited multiple times at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library and the Cutter Gallery in Las Cruces and can be found in private collections across the country. She has previously been a Las Cruces Arts Association member, participated in the Open Doors Art Auction and Benefit for Jardin de los Niños and shown her work in the 2019 Holiday Pop-up Art Show.

DAAC, 250 W. Amador Ave., is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. the second Saturday of every month.
