Posted

April marks the return of Artrageous Wednesdays at the Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC), with a kickoff painting experience 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at DAAC, 230 S. Water St. with DAAC Executive Director Araceli Solis guiding a “Chill and Paint” experience.

Solis will lead participants through “a discovery or awakening of your inner artist,” DAAC said in a news release.

“Create your own masterpiece while supporting your social emotional wellness through the arts, surrounded by our April exhibit ‘The Spirit Within: A Gathering of Indigenous Artists,’” DAAC said.

The cost is $20 for DAAC members and $25 for nonmembers. Space is limited to 30. Call 575-523-6403 by Monday, April 17, to register.

Also coming up in April:

  • A second reception honoring DAAC’s The Spirit Within” exhibit will be held 3-5 p.m. Saturday,

April 15, at DAAC.

  • DAAC will host local nonprofit Learning Action Buffet (LAB) for a drumming workshop, as LAB honors the contributions of Karuna and Marie Warren. LAB provides opportunities for youth ages 15-25 “to design a future of health, meaningful work, economic independence and social justice through art, communication and action,” the news release said.

“Drumming workshops are a powerful way to promote community building and foster a sense of connection and well-being amongst participants,” said LAB Manager/Facilitator Michelle Valverde.

Because space in the DAAC gallery is limited for the performance, reservations are recommended by April 15. Find LAB on Instagram at @learningactionbuffet and reserve a spot via the link in their bio. Visit
