Police are investigating a fatal crash that killed a Las Cruces bicyclist on Jan. 7 but said in a news release that no charges have been filed as of yet.
The crash on N. Alameda Boulevard and Harvard Drive killed 61-year-old Lorenzo Espinoza. Espinoza was struck by a 31-year-old man driving a 2017 Chevy Equinox. The driver, who was not identified by police, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation, the city stated.
According to police, the 31-year-old man struck Espinoza from behind at around 7:20 p.m. as Espinoza traveled in a designated bicyclist lane on Alameda.
“ and drugs do not appear to be factors in this crash,” police said
