Christopher Brooks addresses the audience at the Juneteenth Celebration held by the New Mexico State University Black Student Association and the Associated Students of New Mexico State University on Friday, June 19. He told the crowd he was excited to see such a diverse turnout. The gathering, from 7-8:30 p.m., was in remembrance of when American slavery ended. It also honored the many contributions that African Americans have made in the United States throughout the years, and it was a call for a brighter future for all people of color. The celebration drew more than 100 people and included 10 speakers, dancing and live music.
