Posted

The theme is "Pandemic Stories of the Borderlands" for the first ever Border Shorts! film showcase.

The showcase is a brand-new initiative New Mexico State University’s Creative Media Institute and the Southwest and Border Cultures Institute. It is welcoming entries of short films, narrative or documentary.

The contest is open to NMSU students and to independent filmmakers in Las Cruces, El Paso and Juarez.

“Harness the power of visual storytelling to creatively engage with the challenges of our times and tell powerful stories of life during the pandemic in our borderlands,” a news release about the showcase said.

The maximum length for a film entry is 15 minutes. The first prize is $400 and meeting with an industry producer. Second prize is $200, third prize is $100.

There is no charge to submit a film for the showcase. The deadline is Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021.

Submit films at www.filmfreeway.com/BorderShorts.

The showcase will premiere in the 2021 Las Cruces International Film Festival and will be disseminated through other venues at NMSU, possibly at Allen Theaters and the Rio Grande Theatre, the news release said. The films will be available for use educationally, as teaching tools for faculty in other humanities disciplines.
