Camino Real Middle School principal named interim LCPS superintendent

Posted

The Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education unanimously chose Camino Real Middle School Principal Ralph Ramos to fill the position of interim superintendent Monday night, March 1, LCPS said in a news release. The decision came after the Feb. 25 death of Superintendent Dr. Karen Trujillo.

Ramos has been CRMS principal for the past 13 years. He has been with LCPS for 28 years.

“What an honor to be able to serve in honor of Dr. Karen Trujillo,” Ramos said following the decision. “I definitely learned from her, and appreciate the opportunity to serve our students and families.”

Board members expressed their concern for continuing Trujillo’s compassionate leadership during a difficult time, and felt that Ramos possessed similar qualities as Trujillo, the news release said.

“One of Dr. Trujillo’s greatest qualities is that she regarded us as team members,” said Board Vice President Carol Cooper. “She regarded anyone who had a connection with children as a team member, and I see that in Mr. Ramos.”

Ramos will get a prorated additional $16,354 added to his current salary of $100,938. He will serve as interim superintendent March 2-June 30 or until the board hires a permanent superintendent.
