Cemetery column was fascinating

Posted

To the editor: Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed [Richard Coltharp’s] article “Remembering the forgotten, both here and gone” [Bulletin, June 28].

A fellow cemetery enthusiast, I too am fascinated by the stories behind these stone snapshots of life and death. Wandering through old cemeteries is a favorite travel pastime. I can imagine the stories and ripples into others’ lives these human beings left during their tenure on this earth. Your tenderness regarding the pauper’s cemetery where “souls were given this bit of grace” is a phrase that will stay with me. As a personal historian I’m thankful for your timely reminder of the voices of others we carry with us.

I hope that many in our community will be inspired to have some great conversations and a rich time reminiscing with friends and family over their barbecue plates the 4th of July weekend.
