Election cycle will be 1st for Chamber endorsing candidates
As the stewards of a strong Las Cruces business climate, we believe it is the responsibility of the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce to ensure that the interests of business are being represented in the political decisions of our community leaders.
For this reason, in November 2014, the Greater Las Cruces Chamber Board of Directors unanimously approved authorizing endorsements of candidates and issues that have local implications.
The first election cycle in which the Chamber will actively endorse and/or support pro-business candidates for a better Las Cruces will be the 2015 city council and mayoral campaigns.
Why would we endorse candidates?

The Board of Directors has devoted time and effort into making the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce a leading organization dedicated to supporting a strong business climate, promoting business retention within our city and fostering pro-business public policies which advance the economic agenda of our region.
One of our major goals, as outlined at our 2014 Board of Directors retreat, is to increase our advocacy efforts on behalf of our member businesses. This mandate includes steps to strengthen our presence in local government.
The Chamber is “the voice of business in southern New Mexico.” It is our responsibility to advocate the concerns of the business community and to push for changes in laws and policies that affect our member businesses.
Through this effort, the Chamber will begin to influence local and state offices filled with individuals who wish to partner with the chamber and business community before making policy decisions. The Greater Las Cruces Chamber can act as a consensus builder expressing the concerns of the business community to elected officials.
Consistent with the candidates’ training program that we delivered in May, our focus will be non-partisan. We will support candidates that are pro business.
