Posted

The Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science, Museum of Art, Branigan Cultural Center and Railroad Museum will hold a joint Earth Day event 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 23, at all four museums.

Here are scheduled activities:

  • Branigan Cultural Center, 501 N. Water St. Downtown, will explore how Earth is celebrated in different cultures around the world. Studio programs will teach participants how to make a succulent garden out of recycled objects.
  • The Museum of Art, 491 N. Main St. Downtown, will offer a hands-on activity called Artventurous! about Earth and its symbolism.
  • The Museum of Nature and Science (MONAS), 411 N. Main St. Downtown will show participants how to support the local bird and bee populations by creating mini gardens and peanut butter bird feeders.
  • The Las Cruces Railroad Museum, 351 N. Mesilla St., will offer take-home kits about clean transportation methods.
  • MONAS will collaborate with the Railroad Museum for an oil spill cleanup demonstration. Visitors can learn how oil spills are handled and see the different methods used to clean them up. The demo begins at 11 a.m. in the MONAS classroom.

“Started in 1970, Earth Day is now a globally recognized day to celebrate the planet we all call home,” the City of Las Cruces said in a news release.
