City schedules Economic Development Week activities May 9-13

The City of Las Cruces has scheduled events in observance of Economic Development Week, May 9-13.

  • Monday, May 9, 2-3 p.m.: “Doing Business With the City of Las Cruces” webinar via Zoom will share information with local businesses about how to secure invitations for bids. The webinar also will walk participants through the vendor setup process and registration, and participating businesses will hear about billing and payment procedures.   • Tuesday, May 10, 3-5 p.m.: Roundtable discussion about the city’s El Paseo Road and Solano Drive corridors, at Citizens Bank, 505 S. Main St. Residents and businesses interested in learning more about plans to revitalize the El Paseo Road and Solano Drive corridors are invited to attend.
  • Wednesday, May 11, noon-1 p.m.: “Realizing the Value of An Untapped Workforce” webinar via Zoom. Online registration: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82444374537.
  • Thursday, May 12, 2-6 p.m.: 1) Career fair, Las Cruces Convention Center (LCCC), 680 E. University Ave., sponsored by the city Economic Development Department and New Mexico Workforce Connection (NMWC); free to employers and job seekers. At least 18 employers will participate in the event. Other employers can register online at https://s.alchemer.com/s3/f1ce3762ef98. Registration closes at 5 p.m. May 10. 2) Free employer workshops will be held 1-2 p.m. 3) A presentation held 1-1:30 p.m. will help employers interested in starting apprenticeship programs at their businesses. 4) Employers can get more information on the state’s Work Opportunity Tax Credit during a 1:30-2 p.m. presentation. 5) Job seekers attending the career fair should bring copies of their resumé to share with employers. On-the-spot interviews will be available, so job seekers should dress appropriately. Free RoadRUNNER Transit service to and from the Career Fair will be available for job seekers. Also, free in-person résumé assistance will be available. For information, call NMWC at 575-524-6250. The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions will have its mobile unit at LCCC during the career fair. Computers will be available for the public to register with NMWC online. Job seekers can post their résumés and search and apply for jobs statewide.
  • Friday, May 13, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Tours of Doña Ana Community College’s Espina Street campus, 3400 Espina St.; DACC Workforce Center, 2345 E. Nevada Ave.; and DACC East Mesa campus, 2800 Sonoma Ranch Boulevard. Visitors can learn about programs, see up-to-date laboratories, find out more about DACC’s Opportunity Scholarship and learn about the economic impact DACC has on the local economy.
