LAS CRUCES PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT

City’s Great American Cleanup is April 17

Posted

The City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department’s Keep Las Cruces Beautiful (KLCB) and New Mexico Clean and Beautiful will host the city’s Great American Cleanup 8 a.m.-noon, Saturday, April 17, the city said in a news release.

A large number of volunteers will assist with a city-wide cleanup and collect litter at parks, schools, streets and business properties during the cleanup campaign.

The event was cancelled in 2020, the city said. In 2019, it drew more than 900 volunteers from more than 60 local groups and organizations, who collected more than 17 tons of litter.

KLCB and the Parks and Recreation Department encourage this year’s cleanup volunteers to observe COVID-19 safety guidelines by staying in small groups, practicing social distancing, wearing face coverings and keeping their hands clean.

Trash bags, gloves, safety vests and pick-up tools will be made available as requested during the cleanup, the city said. The items can be picked up during the week of the event, 8 a.m.-noon, April 12-16, at the KLCB office at the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell Ave., near the corner of Bell and Linden Avenue. All volunteers will get a free tee shirt when they pick up supplies.

KLCB will be at Young Park, 850 S. Walnut St., 7 a.m.-1 p.m. the day of the event to provide supplies and information. Volunteers can turn in paperwork there after the cleanup.
