The Rio Grande Rotary Club of Las Cruces (RGRC) has been an integral part of the community since 1975, with a mission to serve others in the community in a way that encourages goodwill and peace. The club has been known for service projects including Dress the Child, the club’s literacy project and the annual yard sale to benefit Mesilla Valley Hospice.
Ronnie Wright was a beloved RGRC leader who valued helping her community and those around her. Ronnie joined RGRC in 2008 and held many different leadership positions while also managing various charity events. She had a passion for supporting the youth of our community, especially those engaged in the Rotary Youth Leadership Ambassador (RYLA) program.
When Wright died in January 2019, RGRC and the community lost a woman of inspired dedication, steadfast ethics and service for the youth of Doña Ana County. Ronnie was passionate about the club during her cancer diagnosis and continued to connect with members. When Ronnie died, a piece of the club was missing. In her memory, the Ronnie Wright Rotary Fund was started.
The fund, created through the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico (CFSNM) with support from Wright’s family and RGRC, supports students involved with Rotary in Doña Ana County, including RYLA and Rotaract. The fund is starting at $10,000 thanks to donations from David Wright and Ronnie Wright’s niece and nephew, Jenny and Mike Farmer.
"We are honored to partner with CFSNM to start the Ronnie Wright Rotary Fund,” the Farmers said. “This fund will carry on our aunt's legacy of generosity, compassion and leadership for the young persons of RYLA."
Wright lived her life serving the community as an active Rotarian. Her legacy will live on through the fund created in her honor. The fund is housed at CFSNM, which oversees more than 35 scholarships. In 2020, 220 students were awarded with more than $210,000 in scholarship funds through CFSNM’s endowment.
CFSNM can set up scholarships in a variety of ways to support students in southern New Mexico and throughout the United States.
