COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO

Community Foundation receives reaccreditation

Posted

Community foundations are an integral part in identifying and solving problems within the community.

The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico (CFSNM) has served as a community resource that connects donors to needs and supports charitable organizations for 31 years. It has come to manage more than 200 endowments and house more than 30 scholarships, with three annual grant cycles.

The foundation serves seven counties: Doña Ana, Hidalgo, Otero, Sierra, Grant, Lincoln and Luna.

Being the center for charitable giving, CFSNM does many things to improve the lives of all southern New Mexicans.

Recently, the foundation has been granted its reaccreditation by the National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations, which represents its commitment to go above and beyond federal and state requirements to demonstrate accountability and excellence within the community.

CFSNM reacted quickly to the COVID-19 pandemic, together with donors and volunteers, to begin multiple COVID response funds. These funds serve a variety of communities, which include the Thank You Las Cruces Restaurants Fund that has supported local restaurants in providing more than 2,200 free meals to those in need.

Additionally, more than 1,823 hardship grants have been awarded to individuals and families from the Together Las Cruces Fund. The Nonprofit Emergency Fund raised more than $100,000 and has assisted in supporting 29 nonprofits thus far. Of the $670,550 donated to support these funds, some came from the Southern Colonias Fund, with more than 246 donors.

CFSNM has continued its events by moving to a virtual platform. The foundation’s annual gala raised $45,000, and it hosted more than 80 professionals during the 28th annual Estate Planning Institute.

To receive and to maintain accreditation, community foundations must have structure and governance, resource development, accountability, grantmaking and community engagement. These are all things our local CFSNM strives for.

Your community foundation has been accredited since 201,2 and we are proud to continue this in-depth process so that our community, our donors and our volunteers know we strive to be the best philanthropic organization we can be.
