Community Theatre hosts Oct. 9-10 auditions for ‘Elf: The Musical’

Las Cruces Community Theatre (LCCT) hold auditions for “Elf: The Musical” at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 and at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at LCCT, 313 N. Main St. downtown.

The musical based on the 2003 motion picture “Elf,” with a score by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin. It will be directed and choreographed by Janet Beatty-Payne, with Annette Hummell as assistant director.

Rehearsals for the show are tentatively scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays, Beatty-Payne said. There will be 11 performances, Thursdays-Sundays, Dec. 2-18.

Needed to perform roles in the show are numerous men and women, boys and girls, ages 7-70. Children and teens are encouraged to audition for multiple roles as Santa’s elves and helpers and in the show’s ensemble.

No roles in the show have been precast, Beatty-Payne said.

Everyone wishing to try out the show is asked to prepare a Broadway-style song for the audition, she said, and to bring sheet music to the audition. An accompanist will be provided. A short dance routine will be taught as part of the audition, so auditioners are advised to dress in appropriate clothing and to bring tap shoes if you have them.

Here are the roles to be cast: Santa Claus; Buddy the Elf; elves (male and female); Charlie, the lead left; Shawanda, another elf; Sam, office staffer; Walter Hobbs, Buddy’s real father; Deb, Walter’s secretary; Emily Hobbs, Walter’s wife; Michael Hobbs, Walter and Emily’s son; two security guards; a saleswoman; Macy’s store manager; Jovie, a Macy’s store elf; a Santa’s helper at Macy’s; a Macy’s Santa Claus; two polcemen; Sarah, a member of Walter’s staff; Mr. Greenway, the big boss; Chadwick and Matthews, members of Walter’s staff; Charlotte Dennon, a television reporter; four finale soloists; David Lambert and Emma Van Brocklin, Central Park visitors; ensemble, which includes New Yorkers, other Macy’s employees, members of the Rockefeller Center crowd, additional office staff, a businesswoman, flyer guys, a teenaged jogger, carolers, a passerby, a souvlaki vendor and a boy with rage issues who sits on the Macy’s store Santa.
