Conservation project hosts Earth Day celebration

Posted

Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project (NTCP) will celebrate Earth Day and its one-year anniversary of the ownership of La Mancha 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, April 22, at La Mancha Wetlands Restoration.

“Earth Day at La Mancha” is a celebration centered on bringing the community of Las Cruces

together with the wonderful natural resources that we have available to maintain and protect for

us and future generations,” NTCP said in a news release. “It is critical to raise awareness of the importance of conservation and sustainability.”

This event is free and open to the public, including anyone “interested in learning more about the importance of wetland ecological restoration practices … and hands-on restoration work,” NTCP said.

It will include a volunteer cleanup, free breakfast burritos for the volunteers and a guided yoga/stretch

at the end of the morning led by Desert Community Wellness.

For more information, contact Emily Gomez at emily@nuestra-tierra.org.

To reach La Mancha Wetlands Restoration travel west on U.S. Highway 70 W/west Picacho Avenue, turn left onto Fairacres Road. Follow the road, going under the bridge. The site is just west of the Rio Grande. Search for it on Google Maps.

NTCP was created in 2017 by a group of Latinx/Latine/Hispanic conservation advocates, the news release said. It works to provide communities of color with sustainable opportunities for community engagement, access and education around public lands and waters in New Mexico and beyond.
