Bulletin report

Doña Ana County has been awarded $103,330 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county and $319,370 from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the United Way of Southern New Mexico (NWSNM) said in a news release.

The selection was made by a national board chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from American Red Cross; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; The Jewish Federations of North America; The Salvation Army; and United Way Worldwide.

A local board made up of the Salvation Army, the Catholic Diocese, UWSNM, Protestant Council of Churches and the private sector will determine how the funds are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies.

Under the terms of the award, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: 1) be private, voluntary nonprofits or units of government, 2) be eligible to receive federal funds, 3) have an accounting system, 4) practice nondiscrimination, 5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs and 6) if they are private voluntary organizations, have a voluntary board.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for funds can find organization qualifications and applications at www.uwswnm.org/efsp.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday, Feb. 23. Applications and required attachments must be emailed to impact@uwswnm.org. To request an application, email Amanda Morales at impact@uwswnm.org.
