Courthouse mural project seeks donations

Posted

An art installation project at the old Doña Ana County Courthouse is underway and artists are invited to participate, according to a news release about the project.

Artists are asked to contribute two-dimensional artwork that will be permanently installed on the walls of the courthouse, 201 W. Picacho Ave. Content should be suitable for this setting. Each artist may submit up to three works of art for consideration.  The artwork should be at least 16 inches by 20 inches, not including the frame, and should include the artist’s name and contact information attached to the artwork.

A five-person jury comprised of local art enthusiasts will jury each donation.

“In New Mexico, we have an amazing Capitol in which many of the arts in our state are celebrated, and I believe we have very good efforts going in both the Las Cruces City Hall and the Doña Ana County Government Building to continue that tradition,” said Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) Executive Director Greg Smith. “So, I was very pleased when Judge Mary Rosner contacted me about this project. What will be happening in the Third District Court building will also be about the arts of our community being celebrated in a public facility. It will be good for our creative economy and for our sense of ourselves here.”

If selected, participating artists’ donated art will be hung and a brass plaque identifying the artist and/or donor will be installed.

Artwork may be dropped off for jurying at DAAC, 250 W. Amador Ave., Monday, April 4 to Friday, April 15.
