To help community members learn a wide range of fun and employable skills, including 3D modeling and printing, laser cutting, audio and video recording and editing, arts, textiles, vinyl cutting and more, Cruces Creatives has hired a dedicated instructor and is now offering skills training classes most Saturdays, the Las Cruces nonprofit makerspace said in a news release.
Saturday skills training classes on how to safely and effectively use the wide range of tools available to the community through Cruces Creatives will be led by instructor Alex Nipper at Cruces Creatives, 205 E. Lohman Ave. Nipper, a visual artist, recently graduated from New Mexico State University with a master of fine arts degree. He also has a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Nipper, who was born and grew up in southeast Tennessee, specializes in mixed-media art using a wide range of tools.
The cost of each class is $25 to $50, depending on class length and material requirements.
Cruces Creatives “works to foster economic development, further education, support the arts, protect the environment, strengthen social connections and advance science and technology by connecting people with the tools, training and community to make practically anything,” the news release said.
“Cruces Creatives provides cooperative access to tools including a full woodshop, an electronics lab, laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC machines, vinyl cutters, specialized software and computer workstations, a textile lab, an audio recording studio, a digital photography and videography lab, a project-based kids classroom, a bicycle repair shop and more.”
Cruces Creatives welcomes members of the community to lead classes and share their skills. Community members can propose a class by completing the proposal form at crucescreatives.org/Propose-a-Program or by emailing event coordinator Emmajean Smith at e.smith@crucescreatives.org.
