DAAC virtual tours launched

Las Cruces artist Bonnie Mandoe’s “Cloudcroft Sunset” is part of the private art collection of Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) Executive Director Greg Smith and his wife, Allison. A 15-minute virtual tour of their collection was launched on the DAAC Facebook page April 3, beginning a DAAC series of virtual tours of local collections featuring the works of Las Cruces and area artists. “We were working on the different ways we want to be sure the Arts Council continues to advocate for artists and the arts during this difficult time,” Greg Smith said. “It occurred to me that we could ask collectors in our community to share virtual tours of their collections. Of course, when one asks others to volunteer to do something, it helps to be willing to do it oneself.  So, I volunteered.” Since 2020 is the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote, Smith said it was appropriate to begin with a collection that focused on the works of women artists.
