DOÑA ANA COMMUNITY COLLEGE

DACC begins online classes

Posted

Las Cruces -- As part of the Doña Ana Community College (DACC) ongoing effort to stop the spread of the Coronavirus/COVID-19, DACC President Mónica Torres has physically closed all campuses and centers and provided faculty and students with tools to move to a remote delivery system of course content.

It has been one week since Governor Michelle Lujan-Grisham put an order in place to limit gatherings to no more than 5 people and gave a clear message about the need for as many New Mexicans as possible to “stay home.”  Responding to the state’s guidelines, Torres decisions include:

  1. All campuses and centers will be closed until further notice.
  2. For the foreseeable future, instruction and services will be provided using remote and virtual technologies.
  3. Faculty and staff will work from home. Exceptions to this will be limited to essential personnel.

Employees have been working with supervisors to prepare for teaching remotely. A DACC COVID-19 web page https://dacc.nmsu.edu/covid19/ provides additional resources for students, faculty and staff. Students with questions are encouraged to contact their instructor or dean.

Torres knows this is not an easy transition “This is a challenging time but I want to assure employees that we will work together to continue providing services for our students in ways that help them learn and develop and keeps our community safe,” Torres said. “This new environment will provide challenges, but it will also offer opportunities.”

Since the start of the pandemic, health professionals have made several recommendations to help prevent the spread of the disease and to “flatten the curve” of infection. All DACC employees are being asked to continue to follow the recommendations.

  1. Wash hands frequently and for at least 20 seconds.
  2. Practice good social distancing by staying at least 6 feet apart from others.
  3. Cough or sneeze into a tissue and then throw it away.
  4. Avoid touching your face.
