Derrick Lee Group performs Feb. 17 at Arts Council’s new home

Posted

For the first in its Feed Your Spirit Series in 2023 and the first musical performance in its new home, the Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) will host a night of jazz 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, with the Derrick Lee Group.

Lee, a drummer, will be joined in the performance by Michael Martinez on trumpet and flugelhorn, Josh Carter on tenor saxophone, Miguel Torres on piano and Arnold Schnitzer on bass. The quintet will perform jazz classics and Lee’s original compositions.

“Derrick is such a natural performer and educator,” said outgoing DAAC Executive Director Greg Smith.  “His love of his art and his love of sharing his knowledge make getting to hear him with his group a real treat.”

“Serving as one of 14 commissioners of the New Mexico Music Commission (NMMC), Lee would seem to exemplify NMMC’s mission of fostering appreciation of the value of music and protecting, promoting and preserving the musical traditions of New Mexico, Smith said.

Tickets are $15 each of two for $25. Purchase tickets online at https://boxoffice.daarts.org/e/4/the-derrick-lee-group, by phone (575-523-6403), at DAAC or at the door. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.

DAAC is located at 230 S. Water St.
