DOWNTOWN LAS CRUCES PARTNERSHIP

Downtown Las Cruces Partnership Awarded 2020 AARP Community Challenge Grant

Posted

The Downtown Las Cruces Partnership (DLCP) has been selected to receive a $12,000 AARP Community Challenge grant. The DLCP is one of only 184 grant recipients selected from across all 50 states, Washington D.C, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

“We are incredibly proud that AARP selected DLCP to receive this grant,” said Jennifer L. Garcia Kozlowski, DLCP Executive Director. “AARP is a nationwide leader on making neighborhoods, towns, and cities more livable for all residents and we are honored that they see the tangible value this project will bring to our community.”

The South Central Regional Transit District was also awarded a AARP Challenge Grant that will be used to add benches, lighting and overhead protection for area bus stops.

AARP received more than 2,800 applications from nonprofits and government entities, resulting in a highly competitive selection process. More than $2.4 million is being distributed to fund these quick-action projects, helping urban, rural, and suburban communities make immediate improvements and jumpstart long-term progress to support residents of all ages.

With this “quick-action” grant DLCP will be able to provide safe bicycle storage and shade structures in the City’s arts and cultural district.

For information about DLCP, call 575/525-1955 or go to www.downtownlascruces.org.

About the Community Challenge:

The Community Challenge funds innovative projects that inspire change in areas such as transportation, public spaces, housing, smart cities, civic engagement, coronavirus response and more. It is all part of AARP’s work on livable communities across the U.S., which supports the efforts of neighborhoods, towns, cities, and counties to become great places for all residents. AARP believes that communities should provide safe, walkable streets; affordable and accessible housing and transportation options; access to needed services; and opportunities for residents to participate in community life.
