DOWNTOWN LAS CRUCES PARTNERSHIP

Downtown Las Cruces Partnership hosts Small Business Saturday; be a judge!

Posted

The Downtown Las Cruces Partnership (DLCP) is preparing for the holidays with upcoming events, Vivas Ventanas and Small Business Saturday on Nov. 27. For the third year in a row, Ventanas Vivas will

feature artwork from local artists.

This year, Ventanas Vivas, a nostalgia- inspired event, will feature an updated take on mid-century downtown holiday window displays, featuring work by artists Domenic Altamirano, SABA,

Noel Sandino, Araceli Solis, Julian R Medran Hunting, Coy Lowther, Lorenzo Braulio Zepeda

and Alyssa Trujillo, DLCP said in a news release. The artists will collaborate with 12 downtown businesses to exhibit holiday murals.

“Honestly I’m very happy to be a part of this,” said Altamirano, who will be participating for the third year in a row. “I’m excited to beautify the windows downtown and make it more cheery. I know things have been rough with everything that’s going on, it’s nice to take people’s mind off it, make them smile, and contribute to the community,” he said.

While Ventanas Vivas is a community event, it is also a competition, DLCP said, and winners will be

announced the week after Christmas. Judges will be members of the DLCP board of directors and the Las Cruces Arts and Cultural District Coordinating Council.

DLCP is also inviting members of the public to participate as judges.

Artists have begun painting the downtown area and the final artwork will debut for Small Business Saturday, during which DLCP will host a welcome station at the Las Cruces Farmer’s Market to provide information about the event. DLCP will be giving away swag, one per family, for anyone who brings a receipt dated for Nov. 27 from any downtown business or farmer’s market vendor, while supplies last.
