Alameda Elementary School fifth-grade students, working through the posted modules online, were asked to watch instructional videos and follow instructions for learning how to draw in one-point perspective, said Alameda and Central Elementary art teacher Deborah Moore.
“Adding color was optional. I think these are great examples of the students working hard on their art projects,” she said
“Drawing in perspective is a real challenge, and these students are right on track. Again, each student is tasked with working this out at home with the support of their parents and their art teacher, they send me their questions about the assignments, and I can answer them right away. They can also call me. They know how to get hold of me if they need help with any assignment. I have stayed in close contact with the students and their parents and everyone has really come together to support each student this semester,” she said.
Central Elementary School fifth-grade students were asked to create a folded paper sculpture in Moore’s art class. All elementary art classes have been remote since the start of the school year.
“I have created instructional videos, detailed written instructions, and ask students to complete their work and submit it online,” Moore said. “This is how all elementary art classes are operating. Students are working on their own, with support from parents and the art teachers to complete their work on time, and they know they can contact me if they have questions or challenges, but I’m not doing live Zoom meetings with the students at this time. I’m always impressed with the level of work students are able to do on their own.”
Parents of elementary-school students have stepped up to help their children get their work done and submitted on time, as well. All schools are working hard to keep in close contact with their families and students each week.
Arianna Sanchez is featured here holding up her folded paper sculpture. She wanted to add a favorite quote of hers, credited to Edgar Degas; “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”
“She loves making her art assignments, and she does a wonderful job,” Moore said.
